Mosquito Tier 1, 2012, Baseball (Exeter Minor Ball)

As the regular season wrapped up we took on St Mary's.  The 15-9 defeat has confirmed we have some details to work on to be able to compete with the league's top teams. Consistent defense, strong pitching and timely hitting will be required as we enter the second stage of our season. The regular season record of 11-4-1 has shown that we can play with any team when we come with our "A" game.  Let's hope it all comes together when it counts to knock off the favourites!

A tough Listowel squad came out with hot bats and took it to us on this long weekend match up.  Listowel boasts deep lineup that will be an OBA favourite. We had our hands full against strong pitching and a top of the order which was on fire. A great running catch by Jack Robinson was the "highlight of the night" play.  Mitch Rowecliffe had a 3-3 performance as well. The boys will come with their "A" game effort Friday night to knock off the Cyclones in our WOBA tourney opener.

Mitchell handed us 19-7 defeat to bring the boys back to reality after a scintillating win against St Mary's the week before. Our defense which has been stellar all season was the major factor with many routine plays getting away from us. We look forward to wiping away the Mitchell grins in WOBA and OBA tournaments soon.

Patience at the plate along with great defence was preached before the game.  The strong Goderich squad requires a complete effort and the Exeter boys delivered. Mitch Rowecliffe has developed into a solid starter in this his first year throwing 3 innings on a tidy 47 pitch performance.  Leaving the game with a 6-4 lead to Carter McIlwain to hold off the Seahawks. Our batters demanded strikes and when their power pitchers threw them we hit.  Our aggressiveness on the bases scored the first and second runs and we never looked back. Solid pitching from Braeden McNaughton, Nick Bedard, Luke Andrews and Dylan Kints held the Lucan team to one unearned run during this game. Break-out offensive games for Cole Hardie and Jack Robinson were great see.  Confidence is everything and now with a more balanced offense we seem to be hitting our stride as we near playoffs, qualifiers and a tough end of the regular season schedule. Next Game is in Goderich July 19th for a tough contest.
