Rules (Exeter Minor Ball)



1. A coin flip shall be used for all round robin games to determine the home team. In subsequent rounds the top seeded team is the home team.

2. Official score keepers are not provided. Home team will be the official score keeper. This official should sit near or behind the backstop in proximity to the umpire for communication purposes.

3. Umpires and opposing team coach(s) must be informed of all overage players prior to the start of the game. Overage players are not permitted to pitch or catch.

4. All games are 7 innings, with no new inning starting after 1 hour 15 minutes of play. The Convenor may set time limit and/or inning limitations for round robin or elimination games in the event a schedule requires revision.

5. Pitcher limited to 3 preparatory warm up pitches and shall not consume more than 1 minute of time. Exception applies when a new pitcher is introduced during an inning without opportunity to warm up. It is at the discretion of the umpire to allow as many warm-up pitches as deemed necessary.

6. Pitchers are allowed to pitch a maximum of 12 outs per game. A pitcher if removed from the pitching position they may return to pitch in that game if they haven’t exceeded 12 outs.

7. Maximum 5 runs per inning. No open inning in tournament play.

8. Mercy rules apply. 10 runs after 3 innings or 6 runs after 5.

9. The game ends immediately after the deciding run scores.

10. Coaches have the option to have a courtesy runner for catcher with 2 Out; must be last out. The coach must decide if this option will be exercised at the first opportunity when it arises. Once a coach uses this option, they must continue to use this option thereon in for the remainder of the game. A coach may not elect to use this option later in a game, if not initially elected to do so when the first opportunity arose in the game.

11. Pitching masks are mandatory at all age levels.

12. Stealing of bases after the pitch crosses the plate (see below for additional stealing rules)

13. APPLIES TO U11 ONLY - No stealing of home base, and no stealing on over-throws

14. This is a house-league tournament, Pitchers must not be current PWSA or US collegiate players.

15. In the event of lightning, play is to cease immediately. The Umpires will instruct resumption of game. If the game is rained out, please consult with the Convenor before leaving the park.

16. Team rosters should be submitted to the Convenor for the first game of each team in the tournament.

17. APPLIES TO U11 and U13 ONLY - 3rd strike batter is automatically out

18. Huron-Perth softball standard play rules apply if anything is in question.

19. Team Seedings for the playoff rounds are determined by the following methods starting with #1 and ultimately #5 if not yet determined:
1. Head to Head result
2. Run Differential
3. Runs For
4. Runs against
5. Coin-flip
